1. Turmeric

Turmeric possesses anti-inflammatory and antibiotic properties and can also be used to lighten and brighten the skin.

For an illuminating face mask, mix turmeric with flour, honey and milk to create a paste. Add yogurt to fight acne.

Apply the paste on the face and leave it to act for 15-20 minutes. Then you should wash your face with warm water.

You can also prepare a home remedy, known as Golden Milk (or haldi doodh) is the best natural antibiotic and stimulant of immunity. Use it for headaches, sore throat, colds, and cough.

Mix one cup of milk with 3/4 teaspoon turmeric, 1 teaspoon of honey and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper. Boil the ingredients on a stove and let simmer a little before enjoying it as a hot drink.

2. Neem

Known for its miraculous properties for healing the skin, neem is the key to treating acne, removing toxins from the body and controlling dandruff.

For acne, boil the leaves until they turn green. Cool, strain and store it in a bottle to use as a daily facial tonic.

For hair loss, dry scalp and dandruff the leaves can be boiled in a mixture of honey and water. Let cool, strain and apply it to the scalp before shampooing.

3. Honey and lemon

The natural bleaching effects of honey and lemon make this mask one of the best ways to achieve a lighter and brighter skin, or to eliminate an unwanted tan.

Mix two tablespoons of fresh lemon juice with a tablespoon of honey and massage the face for a few minutes. Let it act until it drys and then rinse with warm water. For best results, repeat the process daily.

4. Amla oil, almonds and coconut

While coconut oil conditions hair leaving it thicker and softer in addition to stimulating its growth, almond oil has omega-3, protein and vitamin E to fight dandruff and treat dry scalp. Amla oil fights hair loss, stimulates growth and prevents premature gray hair.

Apply one or all of the oils to your hair, massaging it into the scalp. Leave on during the night and wash in the morning.

6. Multani Mitti

Multani mitti (or Fuller’s Earth) has a range of incredible skincare benefits including fighting acne, removing blemishes and dark circles, and reducing inflammation.

For acne and pigmentation, mix it with rose water to create a paste and apply it to the face. Let it dry before washing it.

To get rid of dark circles, mix multani mitti with half grated potato, lemon juice and a teaspoon of fresh cream. Apply the paste to the area under the eyes and leave it to act for 20 minutes.

7. Tulsi

Tulsi leaves can be used to whiten teeth or as a nourishing treatment for acne. Liquefy the leaves with milk to create a paste and apply it to the face to treat acne.

Alternatively, dry the leaves and sprinkle, adding orange peel to form a paste. This paste can be applied to the teeth to whiten and remove stains.

8. Kojic acid
